Excavation & Survey Seasons
Since 2004, teams of US and Greek archaeologists and students, have undertaken detailed field surveys and excavation at the site of Mt. Lykaion. Each year has brought new discoveries and historical insights to Mt. Lykaion. Read through the records of survey seasons past and present.
2022 Season
During the summer of 2022, June 15 – August 1, excavation continued at the Sanctuary of Zeus and Sanctuary of Pan at Mt. Lykaion in Arcadia, Greece, under the auspices of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. A team from the University of Arizona, directed by David G. Romano and Mary E. Voyatzis together with Anna Karapanagiotou, in collaboration with our colleagues in the Arcadia Ephoreia of Antiquities, worked at the southern peak of the mountain and the in the lower mountain meadow, where excavation and survey has been underway since 2006-2010, and 2016-2019. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this an excellent season!
Between August 3rd – August 14th we held the 12th annual Parrhasian Heritage Park Field School in which we are working to create Greece’s first national heritage park.

The second five-year period of excavations at Mt. Lykaion has finished. We thank our friends and colleagues who have contributed their time and effort for making each season productive. The team is now in the process of publishing excavated material in upcoming study seasons.
